On Thursday, Feb. 6, Holy Cross’ Alternate College Theatre (A.C.T) began its weekend-long run of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Merrily We Roll Along, Directed by Conor Sullivan, ’14. Based on a 1934 play of the same name by George S Kaufman and Moss Hart, the play follows Franklin Shepard, played by Nick Jorgensen, ’15, as he revisits life-changing moments in his life.

Shepard, having once been a talented composer of Broadway musicals, abandons his friends, Charles Kringas, played by Patrick Simas, ’14, and Mary Flynn, played by Danielle Santos, ’14, as well as his songwriting career to become a famous producer of Hollywood flicks. The cast also includes numerous other principle characters from snapshot moments in Frank’s life, as well as a multitalented chorus that sings reprises of the title song during transition scenes.

Assisted by the costume, lighting, and set design of Will FitzMaurice, ’14, the world of the play transforms as the audience is taken back in time making stops throughout the ‘70s, ‘60s, and 50’s.
